Marvelous Pizza and Bad Mildew

We had wonderful pizza at La Fonte, one of our favorite local restaurants. Mine was pepperoni, artichoke and mushroom while Dom had sausage. We split a salad and a piece of chocolate/pear tart. Here is a picture of the pizzuola and the oven at La Fonte. You can see more pizza being cooked deep inside the chamber. It was a terrific first dinner back in Italy.

Lest you think life here is simply la dolce vita, I am also including a picture of our kitchen this afternoon. Occasionally when we return we have an infestation of mildew under the sink. Today I pulled everything out of the cupboard and wiped it down with disinfectant. Then I did the cupboard next to it where we keep pots and pans. I have no idea why this occurs although it seems to happen when the cupboards are shut for an extended period of time. Usually I leave them propped open a bit for air circulation while we are gone. This summer everything was picture perfect for showings to potential buyers but I think we will have to forego the perfect look in the interests of no mildew.

This morning we went up to Borgo a Mozzano to pay our water bill. It was the first one we ever received and was for the period 2000-2005. Afterwards, we went to GAIA, the current water company, and tried to regularize ourselves with them. However, they had no record of us and we did not have the meter number so we are going back tomorrow.

Later in the day Dom started battering the weeds and grass near the house. I got out there later and started raking. I took two wheelbarrows full of some sort of tall stalks with clusters of purple berries out to the burn pile. It is supposed to rain tomorrow but if it stays dry we will be out there again in the afternoon.

The weather has not been good. It is chilly (high 50’s-low 60’s) and mostly overcast. Occasionally it brightens but overall it is looking quite autumnal. This is the latest we have ever arrived in the fall and it is surprising to us that the leaves are already changing color. We have always said that the rain start here on September 30. That certainly seems to be the case this year.
